The Fracture of Eternal Winter
A high-level, roleplay-forward one-shot for characters of levels 17–20
When the Weave begins to fracture, slaying a god may save the world — or end magic itself.
The Fracture of Eternal Winter is a high-level D&D one-shot designed for characters of levels 17–20, playable in a single 3–4 hour session. Set within the crumbling Temple of Eternal Day, the adventure places the party at the centre of a divine failure where the goddess of winter has become something far more dangerous than a tyrant.
Auril is no longer simply a force of cruelty — she is a metaphysical anchor, holding shut a catastrophic tear in reality. Ending her reign may bring relief to the world… but doing so risks unravelling the very fabric of magic.
This adventure is roleplay-forward and is designed to give players space to:
-
Engage in extended conversations with powerful, conflicted NPCs
-
Uncover the truth through exposition, investigation, and dialogue, not just combat
-
Debate, question, and shape the outcome through moral choice as much as force
Combat is present and climactic, but it is contextual — informed by the decisions the party makes and the truths they uncover.
This adventure features:
-
Epic-tier play without excessive mechanical complexity
-
A strong narrative spine supported by guided exposition
-
Meaningful moral choices with lasting consequences
-
A cinematic confrontation with a god on the brink
-
Clear DM guidance for running high-level, roleplay-heavy encounters
The Fracture of Eternal Winter is ideal for one-shots, campaign finales, or groups that enjoy high-stakes storytelling where conversation matters as much as victory.
Required source: Rime of the Frostmaiden (for Auril’s final form stat block).
