ARCAVIOS: The Lorehold Excavation That Found Something Alive

Fifty miles north of Strixhaven, a Lorehold excavation team has been having a perfectly ordinary season. Good stratigraphy. Excellent artifact density. The kind of pre-Founding merchant settlement that generates solid papers and respectable citations.

Then the floor of a storage cellar gave way, and what was beneath it was not dirt.

This adventure — written for 3 to 6 characters of levels 3 through 6 — puts the party in the middle of the most significant archaeological discovery in the history of Arcavios: a sealed chamber, sixty feet below the oldest known stratum, belonging to a civilization that predates the historical record not by decades but by millennia. The chamber is intact. What built it is still inside. And it has been waiting, with the specific patience of something that has been doing nothing else for twelve thousand years, for someone capable of understanding what it has to say.

The adventure is built around three interlocking crises that are all, in their own way, the same crisis. The Lorehold faculty on site cannot agree on methodology, which is exactly the kind of problem that is also the most Lorehold problem imaginable. The excavation crew is being quietly influenced by something they cannot name or explain. And the record preserved in the chamber contains a warning that is not historical — it is immediate, and it is about the world the players are currently standing in.

What makes this one different from a standard dungeon crawl is that the threat is not the monster. The monster is a trace, a leftover. The real weight of the adventure is in a twelve-thousand-year-old entity that has been given one task and has executed it with complete dedication across a span of time longer than Arcavios has kept records — and that, when the party finally opens the door and walks into what it has been maintaining, wants only to be heard.

Five detailed NPCs with distinct voices and competing interests, three decision-point endings with long campaign hooks, stat blocks calibrated for Tier 1, and a complete set of AI art prompts for cover, interior, and background use are all included.

Some discoveries rewrite the textbooks. This one rewrites the premise.
