Black Loom of Night: Horrifying Visitations from Mother Thren

This is not a heroic tale.

This is an ordeal.

Black Loom of Night is a horror adventure designed for a party of 3rd-level characters—unseasoned enough to fear what stalks them, yet capable enough to struggle against it. It is not a dungeon to be cleared or a quest to be neatly resolved. It is a slow tightening of dread, a campaign of intrusion, where safety is stripped away and even sleep becomes a threat.

At the heart of it is Mother Thren—a night hag who does not hunt in the open, but through dreams. She studies the characters, isolates their weaknesses, and turns their own fears and sins against them. Each encounter is a nightmare made real: a self-contained scene of horror, tension, and danger that tests not just strength, but judgment, restraint, and will.

This adventure is designed to unsettle.

It leans into psychological horror—phobias, guilt, memory, and consequence. Characters will face distorted reflections of themselves, be forced to confront what they fear most, and endure situations where brute force is not always the answer. Resources dwindle. Rest becomes uncertain. The pressure builds.

Death is real here.

What happens in the dream carries into the waking world. Those who fall may die… or suffer something worse.

This is an adventure for players willing to embrace tension, uncertainty, and fear. It rewards creativity, roleplay, and problem-solving over reckless aggression. The Dungeon Master is encouraged to tailor each nightmare to the characters—drawing from their pasts, their flaws, and the details they thought were unimportant.

Because in this story, nothing is unimportant.

Every weakness is a thread.

And Mother Thren is already weaving.
