Moonfest: Festival of Moons
As autumn deepens across the Western Heartlands, cold mists creep down from the Misty Forest, and the twin moons of Selûne and Lunathar rise over the quiet fields of Lethander’s Rest. The harvest is done, the nights grow long, and the barrier between the living and the dead begins to fray.
Moonfest: Festival of Moons is a tale of dread, vengeance, and unraveling sanity. Crafted for four heroes beginning at 3rd level and reaching 4th before its end, this seven-day descent into darkness unfolds in Lethander’s Rest, a lonely settlement standing between Daggerford and Secomber along the Delimbiyr Route. Though set in the Forgotten Realms, the adventure can easily be adapted to any campaign world—any mist-bound village haunted by guilt, superstition, and old sins.
As Moonfest approaches—the sacred night honoring Selûne and the ancestors—the people of Lethander’s Rest tremble beneath gathering omens. Livestock die without cause. Lanterns burn with ghostly fire. Whispers drift through the fog, calling the names of the long dead. Each year the fear deepens… and this year, something answers.
From the shadowed depths of the Misty Forest comes Mora Weft, a forsaken seamstress reborn as a night hag. Once hunted and cast out by her own neighbors, she has returned to make them suffer as she did. The mists are her veil, the dead her instruments, and vengeance her only song.
Whether played as a Halloween centerpiece or a grim chapter within a greater campaign, Moonfest: Festival of Moons embodies the creeping dread of Faerûn’s haunted countryside—where every candle burns low and every prayer feels too late.
Those who survive may claim a strange prize: a sentient, wandering hut that walks on wooden legs and serves only those it deems worthy—or wicked enough.
This is a story of courage tested, faith shattered, and hope fading like the last light of Selûne through the fog. When the final moon rises, not all will see the dawn.
Please note: This adventure has been adapted to the Forgotten Realms from another work: The Night of Veils. If you own or are considering purchasing that title, you should not need to buy this one. This version preserves the full story structure, encounters, and tone of The Night of Veils, while reimagining its lore and geography within the world of Faerûn.
